What California requires you to carry

Every policy written at our Los Angeles office, in Los Angeles County, has to clear the same state minimums. Here is what that means before you start comparing prices.

Minimum liability limits

Since January 1, 2025 California requires 30/60/15: $30,000 of bodily injury per person, $60,000 per accident, and $15,000 of property damage. Older policies moved up to those limits at renewal.

SR-22 filings

If the DMV asks you for an SR-22, your insurer files it, not you. California normally keeps the filing in place for three years. We file it the day the policy is issued.

Driving without a Social Security number

California issues AB 60 driver licenses regardless of immigration status, and carriers write policies on them. Bring whichever license you hold and we will quote it.

What to bring to the Los Angeles office

This office opens on Saturdays, so you can come in without taking time off work. Everything below speeds up the quote.

  • A driver license or state ID for every driver going on the policy.
  • The registration, or just the VIN, for each car or truck.
  • Your current declarations page, if you are switching carriers.
  • For a business or commercial policy, your payroll figures or the vehicle list.
